Most efficient way to import Outlook 2003 contacts into Entourage 2004?

I need to do this I don't mind paying for shareware or scripts etc. I'd
like the minimum of cleaning up to do afterwards. I've tried forwarding
the contacts as vcards from the PC in an email but they arrive as
winmail.dat files and I've gone to the PC and set it to send in plain
text ratther than rtf - still .dat. I've mounted the a windows folder
that contains a bunch of outlook 2003 vcards and dragged them onto the
Mac but they apear as filename.msg and Entourage doesn't want to know
them. I've changed the file extention of the latter to .vcf and .vcard
and it is still not convinced.

Recommendations, please, from people who have achieved the above
successfully with a large number of contacts and not had to spend ages
cleaning up.

Cheers

David

If you have access to an Exchange Server, you can simply connect to your
Exchange account in Entourage, but I'm guessing that's not the case for you.

Good guess. I don't.
You may be able to read the winmail.dat files created by Outlook by using
the free TNEF's Enough application, available here:

I'll check it out. Interestingly I read on on the MVP Entourage site
that if I set up Outlook to not send stuff in rtf it'd prevent me
seeing winmail.dat attachments. I did this and it didn't work. Normal
attachments, such as word docs, are OK, readable and recognisable.
If that doesn't work, check out Paul Berkowitz's "Export-Import Entourage"
script package.
http://www.scriptbuilders.net/search.php?search_str=Export-Import+Entourage

I've been using PBs ical to entourage sript on an off for ages and
would recommend that, so I imagine that the package you recommed would
do the business. I'll have a look.

Thanks for the input.

I did this with little or no trouble using EmailChemy for OS X.
It will convert Entourage .RGE files into files which are directly
importable into OS X Mail. I did have to rename the imported folders
and emails, though. But this was probably because I failed to put my
EmailChemy registration key in before starting the conversion. It is
well worth the few dollars one has to pay for it. Once I inserted my
registration key, it converted them properly.

NOTE: converting any mail using this product without registering it
will insert "WeirdKid.com" into the Subject area of the converted
mail.

EmailChemy is very cheap, so register it before doing your conversion.

Here's a really great answer to this question from the Mac OS Hints
site. Works like a dream:

After some experimenting here's the solution I came up with; highlight
all your contacts in OL 2003 select 'Actions' at the top and then
scroll down to 'Forward vCard'. At this point you could send them via
e-mail to your Mac or once all the vCards are in the body of the
message you can drag them to a folder. Afterwards simply drag and drop
the vCards directly into your Mac Address Book. [or just drop them into
your entourage contacts window - I dropped them into a new and
temporary identiy so that I can tidy them up before putting them into
the main id.]
