Most fonts in font preview list are blacked out

I'm using Word 2002. Recently, the majority of fonts in my font list
dropdown, when my customization is set to "List font names in their font"
appear either completely blacked out (a solid black bar) or black with
scratchy white lines. There appears to be no pattern as to which fonts are
shown this way. My windows/font folder appears to be in good shape, having
lost none of its menu items. I've run a Detect & Repair on Word, which
didn't help. My OS is WinXPPro.

In Windows, check your graphics settings are set to at least 16-bit colour.
Also make sure that your printer driver isn't corrupt. Check first to see
that you have the latest printer driver from the manufacturer's support site
and then delete and reinstall the printer.

Thanks for your help, Terry. Unfortunately, your suggestions did not work.
My graphics are at 32bit, and I updated my two physical printers' drivers.
Now -- must I upgrade the various virtual printers that have been installed
on my system (such as the fax capture printer, the Adobe PDF printer, the
GoToMyPC printer port, the Intuit Internal printer, the Macromedia Flashpaper
printer, etc., etc.). I hope not!

Only the default printer (or printer that is active at the time) will affect
the list. The only other possibility is the display driver is corrupt - but
I would have thought that there would have been some other display anomalies
other than just that single list.

I'm not really sure what else this can be. It has to be a corruption but one
that affects all the display fonts and only for that one list. Very strange.

I'll try reinstalling the display driver, although I'm not seeing artifacts
of corruption anywhere else. Let me know if you suddenly think of something
else. Thanks again.

I sure will. To me, it is an interesting fault: I guess its bugging you
though.

Yes, it's annoying, but obviously not a showstopper. For the record, I
reinstalled my nVidia graphics drivers (they were already at latest version,
but I did a rein in case of corruption): no change. Thanks again.
