"Most recently used" list missing from File menu and "Recently usedfile list" option unavailable

Hopefully this is real simple. On the file menu at the bottom, usually
are the last 4 saved excel documents, but they are not there. I went
to tools - options and the box was disabled. So I went to help and
looked here.

"Most recently used" list missing from File menu and "Recently used

This link told me to: Click to select the Add new documents to
Documents on Start Menu check box on the IE tab of Tweak UI. To do
this, follow these steps.

Where is this, how can I get my file menu just to list the last 4
saved excels?

Right-click the menu barand pick Customize... (way at the bottom) > Toolbars

I went to tools - customer, reset, and that didnt work. Your response
was alittle vague, did I do it correctly?

Maybe this will explain it better:

After you've got those options enabled, you can use:

Tools|Options|General tab
Check "recently used file list" and make it 4 entries.

But I'd use the maximum number if I were you.
