I am trying to create a solar system type of animation using
PowerPoint. I can get the moon to rotate the earth and the earth to
rotate the sun, but not the moon rotating the earth at the same time
that the earth is rotating around the sun. Any ideas to accomplish
this custom animation or other suggestions about software to use
(Camtasia, etc.)

Not a bad idea, but the problem then becomes that the "moon" rotates
in place and not around the earth as the earth rotates around the
sun. Maybe PP cannot do it.

Difficult to explain (English is not my native language) ... Imaging you
take a spring (as in a ballpoint pen), stretch it and form a circle and
press it flat, then connect beginning and end. You get one big circle which
consists of many loops. That is the shape you need to draw as an animation
path for the moon. The earth rotates on a circle and the moon animation is
set "With previous" to the same speed as the earth. But you cannot have the
moon disappear "behind" the earth. It will rotate around it and be visible
all the time.

Provided you are doing a look down on the solar system perspective. You
could do a perspective view, but that would require VBA and a lot of code
foolery.

However, using the top down view, you'll need to balance the moon with an
object equal and opposite (or it will wobble). Use the 'hidden pivot'
method shown on Glen's PowerPoint Workbench site.
