Mouse clicks not working in the Word Edit Window

Please bear with me as I know this sounds like some other problems that have
been reported. The problem seems to have been introduced in the Windows 7
upgrade I did this week. I didn't have it in my Vista SP2 installation. The
published solutions (registry edits, elimination of add ins, start in safe
mode, start in admin mode, delete normal.dotm, re-install) didn't fix it. I
can recreate it after each and every one.

Here is how the problem occurs
- Open word
- start typing a new document
* at this point I can go back and select text or right click on it with the
mouse
- Hit return/enter
* at this point the mouse will no longer select text, or right click edit
options.

The issue seems to be hitting return/enter. At that point, the mouse
becomes basically useless in the edit window. I can still use it in the
ribbon, just can't use it for editing.

I can close word and re-open it and recreate this at will. I do not have
this problem with Power Point, Excel, Publisher. Just word (And of course
outlook as its using word as the processer).

Any help here is appreciated. Not sure what to do next.

Is this a Lenovo ThinkPad and you are using Word 7 64-bit? If so...

This is a bug with Password Manager part of the Lenovo Client Security
Solution (v. 8.30.0031.00). The solution is:

Click Start and type "password vault"
Click "Password Vault" (listed under Control Panel in the Start Menu)
Click "Set Preferences" in the menu
Under the General tab, uncheck "Enable hot keys"
Click OK
Close Password Vault
Log off (or reboot) and log back in

Watch out for an update to the Client Security Solution application from
Lenovo in the future if you would like to use hot keys.

Thanks for bringing this solution to our attention.

PLease, can you be a bit more specific ? You disabled all application in
password manager ? I have just one allowed application - IE8, but the prolem
is still there. It dissapears in the moment I close the passmanager itself.

Thanks a lot in advance,

Roman

That's a symptom of a Word Data Key corruption - usually because Word has
been running when updates are installed.

Run Regedit and expand by double-clicking to the key below. With DATA
selected, press DELETE. Word will automatically recreate a new key when it
is restarted.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

Symptoms of Data Key corruption include:

• The mouse does not work when you use Word.
• You cannot open a Word document from the Search window in Windows
Vista.
• You cannot open a Word document from Windows Desktop Search.
• Word crashes when you try to start or exit Word.
• Word crashes when you open the Open dialog box.
• Word crashes when you save a document.
• Word crashes when you close a document.

If you feel uncomfortable editing the registry yourself, Microsoft have a
fix that will do this for you.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940791 and press FixIt
