Mouse Issues With Embedded Excel Worksheet

Hi, Here's a wierd one I'm hoping someone can help me with.

I have embedded a linked spreadsheet within PowerPoint, and when I double
click on it to edit, it opens up as expected, but when I left click on a cell
within, the program focus switches imeediately to Excel. I have to right
click on a cell then press ESC in order to edit my embedded worksheet. Quite
frustrating. This happens with linked and embedded worksheets, and also
within Word.

This has been going on for some time now, and was the same in my previous
version of Office (2000).

Any help, or insight would be appreciated here.

Yours,
Andre

It's functioning like it's supposed to. As soon as you click to edit, it
should "jump" into either Word or Excel to allow you to edit the embedded
file in it's native app.

Thank you for the quick reply, however, when I click on the opened embedded
object, and left click on any of the cells therein, MS Excel pops up on my
screen, but not the embedded object' data. The data from the currently open
spreadsheet, a totally separate file, has focus.

If Excel is not open, then nothing happens. If Excel is not open, left
clicking in a cell simply blinks the screen, but nothing else. All other
navigation buttons (left, right, up, down, rights click, F2 to edit...) all
work fine, but the left click does not allow me to edit the required field.
As a matter of fact, a left click doesn't even select the target field. Just
a blink.

I hope that helps clarify the situation.

Yours,
Andre

Hey Steve,
Yes, I do believe the word is "pedantic"...I looked it up. :- )

Doing a detect and repair from Excel with "Discard my customized settings
and restore default settings" checked seems to have done the trick. I'll
have to go back and reset most of my settings, but it's well worth the time.
I'll be trying it out as I go along, so I don't re-introduce the problem.

To answer some of your questions Steve, and to help others troubleshoot
similar problems, I'm working with Office Pro 2003 (but the problem started
with Office Pro 2000), and the issue was identical with embedded OR linked
worksheets within PowerPoint or Word. All in all an equal opportunity bug.

What would happen is, if I had an unrelated Excel worksheet opened on my
desktop, clicking in the opened embedded or linked worksheet within
PowerPoint or Word would activate the unrelated Excel worksheet, with focus
in the last cell I had touched therein. If I didn't have Excel open, there
would simply be a flicker on my screen, but nothing else would happen.

Well, it seems to be working now, so I'll carry on.

Thank you for your help Steve. You are a pedantic god amonst mere mortals.

Yours,
Andre
