Mouse & touchpad not working after Vista Update

R

Vista updated and restarted my HP Pavilion dvs with an AMD Turion X2 64 bit
processor. Word 2007 was open at the time. Upon restart the mouse and
touchpad will no longer left or right click. The cursor cannot be moved
except with the arrow keys.

I have run the automated diagnostics, restarted the computer, etc. The
mouse and keypad work on other programs, including this message.

When I close Word an error message says the program has stopped working and
that it must close the program.

Can anybody help?

Many thanks.

SAME PROBLEM FOR ME- I have MS office professional 2007. Everything is
updated. I'm running on Windows Vista Ultimate. It is also up to date.
Yesterday word worked fine. I tried an ad-in where I could publish to a web
page last night. It said something like "no web page is associated with this
add-in" or something like that. I had the choice to set one up, or do it
later. I chose do it later or skip or similar choice. Then I think my
computer updated during the night. I think trying to use the add-in to
publish to webpage didn't have anything to do with my current problem, but I
don't know.

Today I can't move the cursor around in the document field when using the
mouse. I can move the curor using the up/down/left/right arrows. The mouse
does allow me to move between pull-down menus at the top, but it won't let me
scroll down on the scroll bar on the side of the page. WHEN I GO TO CLOSE
THE PROGRAM, I GET A MESSAGE saying MICROSOFT OFFICE HAS STOPPED WORKING. I
choose to search for a solution to the problem on line, but it doesn't work
or find a fix. HOW CAN I RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM? PLEASE AND THANKS.

I have ran the office diagnostics program and it didn't find anything
wrong. When I close the program I I have a little pull down menu to show
details with the "Microsoft Office has stopped working" splash screen, where
I get the following message:

SO thanks for the link Jay
It sounds like this is what happened to my computer/word. I have never
edited the registry before, and am scared, but I don't know what else to do.

Could I do a system restore to a few days ago and take care of the problem
without having to edit the registry? Would that get rid of the file in the
registry and have me going again? I would much rather do that than edit the
registry.

Take home lesson for me- I am going to have my computer notify me when there
are updates to install, and I'll install them manually so this doesn't happen
again.

Thanks in advance Will

Thanks Jay
Easy Fix. Good simple instructions. Appears to have solved the problem.

Now I just gotta figure out how to tell the computer NOT to automatically
install software updates so I can close all programs before installing in the
future.

Good WORK!!

Set Windows Updates to "Download updates but let me choose whether to
download and install them". There is a "settings" link on the left pane.

I usually wait a week to see if any of the updates have widespread problems.

You can do a system restore however your vista will once again download the
update and install within a few weeks. This is whats hapepning to me

Isnt it funny that they dont cross check their other programs to make sure
everything is working 100%. Understand sometimes there are glitches but you
would think that being the products come from the same company that they
would at least make sure these updates work with their own. This is why
people get Macs and as a windows user that will be what I go with next. Im
tired of finding bugs when they shouldnt be there in the first place
