Mouse wheel scrolls 3 slides at one

For some reason scrolling with the mouse wheel only shows every third slide.
It is frustrating and freaks me out. Is there any way to make it go one by
one, which would make way more sense?
(With the wheel, not involving scroll bars and up/down buttons).

Alissa,
Don't know about your mouse but with mine I can go into the configuration
screen, double click the mouse icon, and on the scrollwheel tab set the
number of lines every turn of the mousewheel will take.
