I go to category view>select the category>file>move to folder>select the
folder and click ok. I get a message that says "are you sure you want to move
all these items? It may take some time. I click yes and the warning says
"some may not have e mail addresses. do you still want to move them. I click
yes and the contact names copy in to the recipient bar of a new outgoing
e-mail message. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks for any help.

When you make the destination folder, a window appears where you write the
name of the new folder - this is where you also set Folder Contains...
properties. Make a Contacts folder.

I hope this helps you at least a little bit!

thanks much Mike and Judy. that helps. I should clarify. I want to COPY not
move the items of a certain category to a new folder. The only way I have
found to do this is Move the selected category to a new folder> create
another new folder> C0PY the selected items of the 1st new folder to the 2nd
new folder > MOVE the items of the first folder back to the Origional
Contacts folder. I now have my desired result. The origional Contacts folder
with all categories present, and a seperate new folder with only the items of
the category I want. You would think outlook would let you COPY a category
without moving it out. Am I missing something here or is that the only way?
Thanks so much.

View the folder By Category. Click the first item in the category. Hold
Shift and click the last item in the category. Click Edit>Copy to Folder
and specify the second folder as the destination. No need to move anything.

What you're missing is the power of the right mouse button. Left dragging
will move, right dragging allows for copying (when you release the mouse
button you will be given choices).

Brian. Thanks, however, I dont have the option of "copy to folder" My only
option is "move to folder". I tried two ways. Selecting the items in the
category. Right click in the selected items area and use the contextual menu
which only has the option "move to folder" or click the edit button in which
case, again, the "move to folder" option appears. No such option as "copy to
folder. BTW I'm using outlook 2002, Office xp,. Thanks much
