Move a web page

K

Karla

I have a web page that I created in Publisher 2000 Business. I have changed
computers. I need to know how to move my web page to my new computer which
has Office XP Business on it. I have tried to save it to a CD but I cannot
open it with XP. My page is 186,733 KB. Any suggestions would be greatly
appriciated.
Thank you

Karla -

What do you mean by you tried to save it to a CD? Are you talking about the
website or the .pub file? (You need the .pub file.) When you say you can't
open it with XP, are you getting an error message? If so, what does it say?

K

Karla

Joann,
I have an external CD burner on my old computer.I went through the cd burner
program and saved it on a cd. I tried to pack and go with it but got an error
message that said there is not enough room on my hard drive delete some
programs and try again. When I tried to save it to a cd through publisher I
get an error message this is a read only program. I tried to change that but
it did not work. I have tried several this except the correct one. It is a
pretty big page 233 pages and about 186kb I will cry if I have to redo the
whole thing.

Thank you

I guess I didn't phrase my question well. Which file did you try to save?
The file you NEED is the .pub file.

Plus, do not save it from Publisher to the burner. Use the burner's software
to get the file. Then paste the .pub file to your newer system. change the
read-only attribute. THEN open it in Publisher.

JoAnn,
I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I think I have followed your
instructions but now I get an error message that says "publisher has
encountered a problem and needs to close....... do you wish to send an error
report." What is that all about? I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office XP
but I can't open my web page file. Any other suggestions?

Let's try this one step at a time.

Do you have the original .pub files? Can you still open it?

K

Karla

Yes I still have the .pub file on my old computer. I can still open it.

I don't suppose you use Adaptec software for your burner, do you?

No. When you start the software up on the old system, does it look something
like Windows Explorer? You don't need to worry about the Iomega software on
the new system with this issue.

No not at all. Its just like the progect selector, you can chose to make a
data cd or music cd, or picture cd.

Okay, it's going to be a data CD. When you do that, I assume it takes you to
a screen that allows you to pick the file(s) you want to burn on the disk.
(So far it sounds like Adaptec's software.) Just pick your .pub files and
make the disk.

Karla,
Copy the files from the CD to your new computer hard drive and open them
from the hard drive and all should be ok.

When I open it on my new computer? yes.
:

Crap - I don't know that software. Does it use something that bears
a
semblance to Windows Explorer?

No, it is an iomega burner and sofware.

:

That's good. :)

I don't suppose you use Adaptec software for your burner, do
you?

Yes I still have the .pub file on my old computer. I can still
open
it.

:

Let's try this one step at a time.

Do you have the original .pub files? Can you still open it?

JoAnn,
I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I think I have
followed
your
instructions but now I get an error message that says
"publisher
has
encountered a problem and needs to close....... do you wish
to
send
an
error
report." What is that all about? I have uninstalled and
reinstalled
Office
XP
but I can't open my web page file. Any other suggestions?

:

I have a web page that I created in Publisher 2000
Business.
I
have
changed
computers. I need to know how to move my web page to my
new
computer
which
has Office XP Business on it. I have tried to save it to a
CD
but I
cannot
open it with XP. My page is 186,733 KB. Any suggestions
would
be
greatly
appriciated.
Thank you

Have you ever saved a file from a floppy or downloaded a file from the web?
(If you know this much, it makes it easier to assist you. If not, then we
need to take "baby steps".)

OK, Sorry I have reread the posts and Don said to save to my hard drive
how
do I get it to my hard drive?

Hey guys thanks for all of the help. I have tried all of those things,
when I
try to open it on my new computer publisher just freezes up. Error
messags
says this program is not responding end task or return to windows and
wait...... Any other suggestions? Should I just redo it? I am self taught
so
I have been trying to avoid that because I'm sure it will take me a long
time. Well let me know if you have any other ideas.
Thanks

In addition to what Don said, after you copy the file to your hard
drive,
you might need to right click the file > properties and untick
read-only.

Karla,
Copy the files from the CD to your new computer hard drive and open
them
from the hard drive and all should be ok.

That is what I have done. I have the disc ready to go to the new
computer
and
that is where I run into problems. Please tell me what to do next.

:

Okay, it's going to be a data CD. When you do that, I assume it
takes
you
to
a screen that allows you to pick the file(s) you want to burn on
the
disk.
(So far it sounds like Adaptec's software.) Just pick your .pub
files
and
make the disk.

No not at all. Its just like the progect selector, you can chose
to
make a
data cd or music cd, or picture cd.

:

No. When you start the software up on the old system, does it
look
something
like Windows Explorer? You don't need to worry about the Iomega
software
on
the new system with this issue.
