move autotext entries from Word 2003 to Word 2007

I have tried in vain to move my old autotext entries from Word 2003 to Word
2007 following advice MVP Beth Melton gave on 1/2/2007 to a question by Mike
Kuch: renaming the old Normal.dot to AutoText.dot and placing it into user –
App.Data – Roaming – Microsoft – DocumentBuildingBlock – 1031.
Then I have moved BuildingBlocks.dotx out of this folder, so that there is
only one folder left in the 1031, namely Autotext.dot (which is the renamed
file from normal.dot from Office XP).
It doesn’t work with me. To give an example, I write in Word 2007 NYT and
add F3, there will be no reaction, where under Word 2003 it would roduce
"New York Times".
Where is my fault? I would be grateful for help.

Hi Mollius,

In Word if you use Insert=>Quick Parts=>Building Blocks Organizer
do you see the Autotext.dot template listed? If so, is the name of the entry NYT? The F3 shortcut uses the name of the entry, not
its content.

If the item is not listed, move it's location up one folder in the directory tree (i.e. not in a language specific folder, such as
\1031 ) then restart Word and see if that makes a difference.

In Word 2003 was the NYT choice in the Autotext gallery or was it perhaps an Autocorrect entry (stored differently)?

Dear Bob,
thanks so much. I have tried the way you suggessted:
1) In the Building Blocks Organizer, there now is no autotext.dot template
listed.

2) NYT is the name of the entry. When I type it and have it followed by F3,
then the full text should be written: New York Times.

3) In Word 2003 the NYT choice was in the Autotext gallery, it was not an
Autocorrect entry.

4) On your suggestion I have moved autotext one step up the ladder, from
1031 into Document Building Blocks, and restartet Word. To no avail.

5 To remind: My new file autotext.dot is nothing but the renamed old
normal.dot from Word 2003.

Would you kindly have a look at it again? For a couple of items it certainly
would not be worthwhile, but I have a little wealth of customized autotexts
buried in my old 2003.

Hi Mollius,

Try using Alt, T, I while in Word 2007 and loading your Autotext.dot template as a global add-in and then check the Building Blocks
organizer to see if it lists entries you expect. It's possible that you may have had more than one Normal.dot on your computer
prior to Office 2007 installation, you may want to do a search of *.dot files. What is the size of the Autotext.dot file?

Also check in Word Options
Office button=>Word Options=>Trust Center
is the folder you are using a trusted location?
