Move cells via shortcut ?

Hi

I move cells via drag and drop a lot. Can this be done via keyboard as
well? Are there maybe "secret" shortcuts? I couldn't find anything in
help or online.

No, there are no "secret" shortcuts. How much easier can you get than drag
and drop? Are cut (apple X) and paste (apple V) not good enough? Can you
describe more precisely what you are moving, from where to where, and how
you think a shortcut key may help?

Easier not, but faster certainly. Maybe my mouse handling is not light-
speed enough.

I can move to a cell using the arrow keys, jump to the next filled
cell via cmd + arrow key, add neighboring cells to the current
selection with shift + arrow key and so on. Those actions can be done
using the mouse, as you said, but shortcuts have been added to the app
for a certain reason.

So why not moving the selected cell or a group of cells using, lets
say, cmd + ctrl + right arrow. That could speed up a complex
rearrangement of a sheet a lot.

You can set up shortcut keys to do whatever you want. I still don't see what
you want to do, and will argue that keyboard actions are not necessarily
faster than using the mouse. But, to each his own.

I'm not understanding what you're looking for when you say "move".

Moving a cell (i.e., removing the contents/formatting from one cell and
inserting the contents/formatting in another cell) requires two pieces
of information: the cell to be moved, and the destination.

That's not possible to accomplish using a single command/shortcut unless
one makes assumptions about one or the other. Assumptions tend to make
the shortcuts less useful.

easily be possible to "move" a cell content combining the arrow key
with a modifier key. Like shift-arrow extends the selection in the
direction of the arrow. That's a clear instruction without any
assumptions.

OK, Now I understand, but you are probably the only one who desires this.
Going from A1 to A2, I guess I see your point. But I don't see how hitting
the right arrow 10 times, and the down arrow 5 times is faster and easier
than one mouse click.

OK this involves multiple steps:

1) Select the source cell
2) Start move command (hover cursor over border and click-hold)
3) Move cursor to destination
4) Complete move command by releasing mouse button

The reason a mouse can do this and a single keyboard shortcut can't is
that steps 2-4 are continuous functions using a mouse, but keypresses
are discrete events.

I could imagine that you could, as in your example, have a modifier
key(s) that would do this, e.g.:

1) Select cell
2) Press modifier key(s) and hold to start move
3) Press arrow keys
4) Release modifier key to complete move

But I don't see a significant advantage (other than, perhaps, not
overwriting the clipboard) and can think of at least a couple of
disadvantages, compared to using a combination of two shortcuts:

1) Select cell
2) Start the move by cutting (CMD-x)
3) Press arrow keys
4) Complete the move by pasting (CMD-v)
