move graphic in word

G. Michael Paine

I have been sent a MacOfficeX, Word, file with a small graphic in it. I
need to move the graphic frame and cannot for the life of me remember
how to move a frame.
Please assist my failed memory.

Hi Michael,

Do you mean reposition it within the document?

If the graphic was inserted "inline with text", then you can copy it and
paste it anywhere in the text that you insert the cursor (and delete it from
the original location, of course).

If you want to be able to drag the graphic and have various text wrapping
options, then you need to change it so it's not "inline with text". You do
that by selecting it and going to Format: Picture (or Format: Frame). Click
the Layout tab and select one of the text wrapping options.

I just noticed that the title of the doc has (read-only) after the name.
I now assume that means I cannot change anything.

Correct?

Yes.

I think you can change permissions this way (I'm not in OS X so I don't
promise I have this exactly right, but give it a try):

Select the document in the Finder and do a Get Info (Cmd>i). Drop down the
Ownership and Permissions arrow and see if you can change the permissions.

Hope this helps.
