Move Project 2007 SP1 to another server in the farm

We use Project 2007 SP2 on the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP2 in farm
configuration.
Only 2 servers are in the farm now - one of them is Project server and the
other one is SQL 2008 Server

Our Project server has some troubles with it's hardware so we plan to move
project temporary to another server and some time later back all servises to
the original project server.

I install WSS 3.0 SP2 on the new server and add it to farm
Then I install Project 2007 (and SP2)

Now If I stop such services as Central administration on the old server - I
can see in Comment field that service is running on the new server. It seems
that Sharepoint farm works ok

But if I stop Project Application Service on the old server and start it on
the new server - it seems that those applications work separately.
If I try to open http://projectserv-tmp/pwa link - I've got an error but
page is found

I try to find information how to move Project Application
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd630722.aspx part IV
but the video stops in the most important moment

I am sure that my problem is not so significant but I can't find any
documentation that can help. And my project Server's knowledge level is not
high

Can anyone help me in my case?

Hi Alexx:

Questions:

1. Was your PWA site working before you added the new server to the farm?
2. Did you install WSS 3.0 separately than Project Server 2007? Or did you
used the Project Server 2007 CD?

Adding the new server to the farm should follow the following sequence:

1. Install Project Server 2007 (RTM or SP1) but DO NOT run the
Configuration Wizzard until you have installed both WSS 3.0 and Project
server 2007 updates to the same level as your exisitng farm. For example if
your farm is SP2 both for WSS 3.0 and Project Server 2007 then the new server
should be updated to SP2.

2. Update the new server to the same level as your existing farm.
3. Run the configuration Wizzard
4. Start the Project Server Service and any other service that your other
server (the one with the faulty hardware) services.

Thanks,

Walid

yes it is
2. Did you install WSS 3.0 separately than Project Server 2007? Or did you

yes, I downloaded WSS 3.0 SP2 directly from microsoft site
Adding the new server to the farm should follow the following sequence:

1. Install Project Server 2007 (RTM or SP1) but DO NOT run the
Configuration Wizzard until you have installed both WSS 3.0 and Project
server 2007 updates to the same level as your exisitng farm. For example if

should be updated to SP2.

2. Update the new server to the same level as your existing farm.
3. Run the configuration Wizzard
4. Start the Project Server Service and any other service that your other
server (the one with the faulty hardware) services.

My steps are:
1)I install WSS 3.0 SP2 in the web front-end configuration. I do not run the
Configuration Wizard
2)I install Office Project 2007 SP1 in the farm configuration. I do not run
the Configuration Wizard
3)I install SP2 for Office Server. And then I run the Configuration Wizard
to add my server to the farm

The old server has the same configuration and we install it in the same way

Then I stop the Project Application Service on the old server and start it
on the new server.
It doesn't work if I try to enter "http://mynewserver/pwa"
But if I enter "http://myoldserver/pwa" it works while Project Application
Service has been stopped on that server

OK
I try to stop Windows SharePoint Services Web Application on the old server
and "http://myoldserver/pwa" does not work anymore (page not found)
"http://mynewserver/pwa" url does not work too (I see An unexpected error
has occurred.)

So I can host Project Application Server on the new server but I cannot
shutdown the old one

What should I do in that case?

I should create a new SSP that belongs to the new server and change
associations for web applications?
