Move to beginning and end of Documents quickly

R

Robby

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I would like to know if there is a way to create either a Key board short cut or an apple script to move to the end /and or beginning of a word document. As i do not have home or end keys on my key board the only thing I have found is pressing fn + up or down arrow. but I I need to do this a few times to get to the end of a doc as presing the keys once only brings me to the end of the current page. Help thank you

Command-a, left arrow to go to the beginning.
Command-a, right arrow for the end.

Is that command (Alternate) or the key A?
Command-a, left arrow to go to the beginning.
Command-a, right arrow for the end.

Think about it Phillip.
Hint: It is *very* sly!

PS I'm puzzled about which Macs/keyboards lack home and end yet have a
fn key. All my laptops back to Pismo map home onto fn-left arrow and
end onto fn-right arrow.

In Word 2004, since the End of document command is cmd-end,
cmd-fn-right arrow works a treat. It is not as cunning as Corentin's
trick, which will work even if home and end are not so mapped.

Dunno about 2008 though. It is possible that is another thing that does
not work as well as in 2004.

It's "command a"
the shortcut stands for Select All.

The arrow will then place the cursor either at the beginning (left
arrow) or the end (right arrow) of the selection.

It works in virtually all apps.

I know the answer, to my question but maybe the op is new.

WE have to remember not everyone is as Smart as Corentin, you, Bob, or
the or the MVP. Even I am not that smart in most cases ;-)

I agree that it's not always clear.
Most people use the same convention and to avoid confusion, alt is
usually written down in plain, eg: command-alt-a

Now.... This is a potential source of confusion if you want to use the
command-minus shortcut :->

.... Except that on a Mac it's rarely referred to as the Alt key in the first
place - OPTION or OPT is what most Mac users would expect :)

Except those of us on MacBooks, where "Alt" is Function + Option :)

Exactly - The MBP (and most Mac Keyboards I've seen) works the same... Alt
is the secondary function of the OPTION key.

So does my iMediaKey as does my MBP, but the lettering is so small it can't
be read without my glasses & it is *never* referred to as "Alt" in OS or
accurately written Mac software instructions. It's my understanding that
those keyboards that include that label only do so to simplify transitioning
for converts from the Dark Side :)

Not really. Apple Keyboards for other countries don't necessarily have
Option.
I have here a French Apple USB keyboard (AZERTY) with Alt written on the
key (actually it has Alt, and the corresponding pictogram — no Option).

Or to even allow darkside people to use the keyboard in a Pinch.

Now wonder if some one will come out with one that has the windows Flaf
over top on the Command key Clover leaef.

No! make me shiver to think it! (brrrrrr).
