I loaded a template. The associated xls is buried down in 1033. Even if I
save the template as a vst, the datasource isn't duplicated. My vst still
uses the data associated with the template. I've been looking for a way to
move or rename and move the xls alongside the vst. I have exhausted all
sources, even the kb and I even took the online courses. No clue.

Also, there is supposed to be a way to allow changes on the data shape to be
reflected in the data source. Cannot find either. I need to be able to move
my data source around... what is it with them that this is just completely
ignored?

Help!

Datasources (v2007pro external data) are not round-trippable unless you
write custom code. This has been known from the beginning. If you want
portable datasources you'll probably have to write custom code for that as
well, although that code is a lot easier and examples for reading them are
in the visio sdk. Data can be roundtripped if you use the database wizard.

So the "process" template isn't really a template since it doesn't replicate
itself (along with the data). I disassociated the data and copied the xls,
and then reassociated the copy. In the online course (2007), it mentioned
that there was a way to turn off the one way behavior. That's why I believed
there was a way... but could never find it. The worst though, is not being
able to move the data source. I guess that also means that you cannot move
the vst either?

Because of this behavior, I put my information into the Gantt chart. It's
all contained and I can let Project suck it in if I want.

ps, How do I change my display name in this forum? I picked that name after
activesync lost all the data in my pocketPC... years worth of friends and
contacts.

"ps, How do I change my display name in this forum?", I really haven't a
clue :)
I understand the losing contacts. It happened to me once and now I'm really
careful.
