movie not playing from last position

I am inserting a movie (digital video clip) into powerpoint. I'd like to be
able to pause the clip and then start it back up. I tried doing this by
putting in three custom animation units: Play movie (with "from beginning"
clicked); stop move; and play movie (with "from last position" clicked). The
movie always goes back to the beginning after the stop. (I've tried using
"pause movie" too, same problem.) Interestingly I can start the movie at a
set point using the "after xx minutes" box and setting on the movie effects
menu, but I can't get it to remember where it was and start from there. Any
suggestions? Thanks in advance.

PowerPoint version? And how did you set it to pause? (What did you use as
the trigger?)

Sorry, I should have said. I'm using PP2003. The pause is triggered by a
click (using the "animate as part of click sequence"; then the second play
also by a click. I should note that, since rewind is off, the first run of
the clip does stop at the appropriate point (I can see that in the
freeze-frame that shows on the slide), but the second play always goes to the
beginning of the frame, unless I set a specific time code to start up.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Click of what? In other words, what are you clicking to pause it?

Thanks, Austin. Sorry. I'm clicking the mouse while the video is playing in
full-screen mode. This is a video file that has been added to a powerpoint
slide using the insert movie from file menu option. I then use the edit
movie object to set it to play in full screen mode, and I'm trying to get
custom animation to let me pause it then restart at the same point.

Maybe it will be clearer if I go into just a tad more detail about the use.
I'm using the slides in a lecture for my class. I'd like to play part of the
video, then pause it to tell the students to look for a particular thing that
will happen, then start the video going again.

If you used PFCMedia to insert the video it will automatically create the
pause function for the video. You MUST click ON the video, NOT the slide or
outside the video to both pause and restart it.

Does PowerPoint not automatically create a pause function when you insert a
video?
As long as, as you say, you click the clip.
