Moviefile on autorun presentation

I have just captured a 15 min clip from my dv-camcorder
that i want to use in my presentation.This clip now
occupies 3,5 Gb as an .avi file on my harddisk. How small
can i get this file and still have a ok quality when seen
on a computer? Can someone suggest some programs i can use
to make this file smaller and still compatible with most
computers?
