Moving agents into XP

P

Pete Derkowski

Hi - I've read previous appends on how to get the Genius office assistant in
office 2K into office XP, but it didn't work for me.

Copying the genius.acs file into the appropriate folder did not allow me to
select him in the assistant pop up. I still only see the original characters
that XP came with.

As a workaround, I moved him over by renaming the F1.acs file to
F1backup.acs, and then renaming the genius.acs file to F1.acs. He now comes
up when I select F1.

Besides this sly workaround, how do I formally get both him and F1 into XP?

Seems there should be an .ini file or something that is stating what the
full crew is composed of.

Any help would be appreciated.

Use the Office 2000 CD and add the Office assistant from the Office Tools
menu selection.

Hi Pete,

There are a couple of ways to do it. The location
for additional assistants (i.e. those that didn't
come with your version of Office) may be one for
Windows rather than for Office and that can vary
by Windows version (check with the folks in the
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.msagent
newsgroup.

If I recallcorrectly, when you add a character in the folder
with the Office assistants the registry setting at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Common\Assistant
is the one where changing the AsstFile key to use a
particular .ACS character will add it to the gallery
if you then start Word, but it's been awhile so use
at your own risk :)
