Moving Columns

Drew

I don't use Excel very often but I need to do something real quick.

I have an old copy of Excel on my computer, maybe Excel 97.

I need to be able to rearrange the order of the columns.

I can't seem to just select the column and drag it to a new location.

My goal is to export a table in CSV format in a particular order.

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks,

Drew

try selecting the column such as clicking on B. Then move cursor to just
between the bottom of the column letter and the top of the first cell. drag.

Well, that allows me to move the column, but it overwrites an exisiting column.

The spreadsheet contains columns in A-X

Say, I want to move the whole column C to the left of Column A.

Do I have to create a new empty column before column A?

The columns are totally out of order from what I need them to be.

I thought I could just drag them around...

Hi Drew,
It is possible to move columns as well as overlay columns. Don
left out the SHIFT that allows you to move the column(s) so those
directions would overlay existing column(s). Also note where you
place the cursor.

Select the Column and Hold the SHIFT key down and then grab the side
of the column below the column headers (A,B,C) and drag the
demarcation line between columns.

It is also possible to select several columns and move
them all at once.

Hi i'm not sure if this will work in excel 97 i have only tried it i
2000 version.

Select the column you want to move and click Cut.

Select the column after the position you want the data moved to.

Then go to the insert menu and select insert cut cells.
