Hi, When i perform this operation by creating a Local folder and dragging messages from the Inbox. They still have that green network cable next to it, indicating that it still resides on the mail server and NOT the local hard drive. If I export all mail to a .RGE file and then Import that archive file... It accomplishes what I'm trying to do. Is this the only way to move emails off the server to the local drive, in order to make space on the server? Thanks

Hi, When i perform this operation by creating a Local folder and dragging

Is the folder you are creating under folders "On My Computer"? When you move
a message from the server to a folder "On My Computer" it copies the message
and you shouldn't be seeing the icon indicating it's still on the server.

Hi Diane, Yes.. Actually I tried 3 things, Right clicking "Folders on my computer" and then selecting "New Subfolder" -- Right clicking my Exchange"Inbox" and selecting "New Folder..." -- And going to File>New>Folder...

None of these methods copy the email(s) to the local drive. They continue to have that envelope icon with the green network cable to the left of the Senders' name. I tried this on multiple machines (I'm a tech) -- They all do the same thing... The only way around this I found is to Export/Import -- Then delete off of the server. A cumbersome process... It would be nice to get confirmation that its not a setting somewhere, etc. but thanks for your response!

Yes, but did you actually drag or use the Move to function to move the
messages?

I actually tried both methods... I really appreciate you looking into this as i'm sure this should affect other people. It is somewhat misleading that moving an email on the exchange server to a local folder actually creates a copy of itself on the server and not a local copy. If you happen to have Entourage 2004 (11.5.3) -- It would be really helpful to confirm or refute what's happening over here at my office. I tried all the obvious methods of creating a local folder (Under the Folders on my Computer) & then dragging or right clicking the message to get it in there... No matter how i do it, it ends up in that newly created folder with that 'envelope connected to the server' icon...

Thanks again for helping me out with this... Like i mentioned.. Exporting, importing acheives what i'm trying to do, but its odd to me that that is the only way to get emails off the exchange server to the local drive!!!

I don't have an Exchange account to test so let me see if I can run this
past one of the Exchange users and see if they have any suggestions. In the
mean time, download EEAO and test it out. If it works, it's only $15.

It appears you can test it out before buying.
