Moving data from Word document to Works database

I am trying to move some of my wife's recipes from an old
PS1 to a Works database. (They are in an application
program and not accessible electronically) I have
printed the recipes and have scanned them in. When I OCR
them into Word and try to cut and paste them into the
database, they appear in the database as a picture not
text. Is there a way to cut and paste items from Word as
text? Or is it something in the OCR program?
