Moving Default Text Position on New Shapes

Jim

I've found that if I create a new shape (or master) by using an image, the
text position when using that shape in a drawing is below the shape's image.
However, if I create a new shape by using Visio's drawing tools (box, circle,
etc. or any combination), the text will always overlap the shape's image.
For the stencil I'm creating, I've got a lot going on inside the shape's
image so when I type in a bunch of text it's hard to read everything.

Does anyone here know how to set the text position for a new shape so it
displays below the image instead of right over top of it?

Hi Jim,

You can mimic the behavior of the images by doing the following with your
shapes:

1. Select the Text Block Tool. It's under the Text Tool on the Standard
toolbar (there's a little drop-down arrow...)
2. Select your shape
You will now be editing the text block of the shape, not the size of the
shape.
3. Reduce the height of the text block to zero by dragging the top edge to
the bottom
4. Set the paragraph alignment to Align Top

I've got an article about this on Visio Guy. Along with illustrative
pictures, there's also some VBA code to help you automate the process!

Have a look under:
