Moving files

Can anyone tell me how to prevent Access automatically
creating a 'password required' situation on any data base
file that I move from its origonal location.

I think you'll need to provide more details: what you're describing is not
normal behaviour for Access.

I am happy to provide any info that you think may be
helpful, I often move files by drop and drag from one
folder or drive to the next with out problem-but NOW
Access is making it so that I need to have a password to
open any database that I have moved. IT would be OK by me
if it were to create a password enviroment without
instruction from me then it would be really helpfull if it
told me (the administrator and only user) what the bloody
password is!!!!!

No pirates. LAN with one PC (rarely enabled)

I'm afraid I have no suggestion. As I said earlier, that's certainly not
standard for Access: I know I move the location of MDB files constantly.

Is it asking you for a user name and password, or just a password?

If you move the file back to its original location, will it work?

There is no way that simply moving a database file to a different location,
will cause Access to start asking for a password.

As Douglas said, is it asking for a password, or a username and password?

- If the former, there is no explanation for what you say is occurring -
unless the move process is corrupting the database, causing it to think that
it has been password protected.

- If the latter, you have changed the "workgroup information file" that you
are using. You can do that by using the workgroup administrator program, or
the similar built-in option in later versions of Access, or you might be
starting the database from a shortcut thsat uses the /wrkgrp flag to
nominate a workgroup file.

Either way, moving a database file >will not, in and of itself<, cause
Access to start asking for a password.
