moving grouped objects

I grouped some shapes and want to center them on the page. Whenever I
manually drag the group, a copy is created. I've deleted the copy(ies),
selected the group and chose "center"--nothing works. Must be a Word 2007
thing but I can't find an answer in Help. Can anyone tell me what to do?
Would really appreciate it!

Out of total frustration I started over and hopefully will have better luck
but 2007 isn't as easy to manipulate drawing as the older versions. I just
read that connectors automatically attach to what they're connected to, and
since I didn't know that, I was grouping them with the shapes. Now I'm trying
to delete the grouped object and I can't get rid of it. Any ideas.

I'm answering my own posts, but thought I'd let everyone know my 2nd attempt
worked--I didn't group the connectors and drew inside a box. Then I found
that I couldn't delete the old one because of the text wrapping, so I changed
it and was able to delete. But I'd still like to know what was happening
because there did seem to be many copies of the graphic.
