moving handwritten objects

KristenH

Most of my notes are handwritten and when I try to add extra space above
something I have already written, some weird formatting things happen and
parts of my handwriting move and other parts don't which really messes up my
notes and makes them illegible. And when I try to move them they are in
multiple pieces which makes them hard or impossible to move.

Try to write them reasonably close together and also try to write them on a
line as much as possible (instead of scrawled across the page). Otherwise
OneNote can have a tough time recognizing what belongs together.

This is a real disadvantage of OneNote over Journal for Tablet users, I am a
law student who has been frustrated all quarter, especially when I draw
diagrams and charts that get all messed up by adding a little extra space.
Thanks anyway.

Yes, the lasso feature of Journal is a nice feature that the current version
of OneNote lacks. I won't be surprised to see something similar appear in a
future version.

Kristen,

The following is a partial solution which may help you get some messed
up pages tidied, depending on your hardware.

I don't use a Tablet PC so this is based on behaviour in "normal"
OneNote. So I would be interested in feedback as to how well it works,
or not.

If you drag across handwriting then it ought, I believe, to select the
handwriting. You have to be careful to drag so that you don't miss any
of it.

Then if you hold the Control key down (assuming you have a Tablet with
a keyboard) you can drag across more handwriting and it is added to
the selection.

Then, I hope, you should be able to select and move as much as you
want. I appreciate that it's not convenient, but it may let you bring
some order back into pages that are not as you want them.

Hello KristenH,

I trust you are not studying too hard and not getting enough sleep over this
trouble. However, I have some info for you. I think it applies.

I am assuming that you do not have a Tablet PC? .. because of the trouble
you are having...
Here is an illuminating article about your trouble, and perhaps a reason why:
"OneNote 2003 text recognition features are only supported on a Tablet PC"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;818230

*SUMMARY:
Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 does not
support digital ink on a non Tablet PC Operating System.
*MORE INFORMATION:
The Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
operating system and the Tablet PC hardware
combine to form a platform that is built for drawing,
handwriting, and handwriting recognition. Whereas,
on a laptop or desktop computer, the marks that you
put on the page with a digitizer device are just lines,
similar to those that use the Pencil tool in Microsoft
Paint. Because the Tablet PC platform is required for
creating digital ink, other digitizing devices, such as
pen digitizers and pen tablets, do not produce digital ink....
