Moving styles between documents

How can I update a style in a document with a style (of
the same name)in another document?

Alternatively, how can I update a style in document with a
style (of the same name)in a template other than the one
the current document is based on?

It appears that I can move styles between any document and
the normal.dot template using the styles organizer, but it
does not allow me to (directly) move styles between
documents and templates/documents. Is there some clever
way to do this?
