moving to end of sheet

R

Rick

I know that "ctrl-end" should take me to the end of a
worksheet. Sometimes, however, it takes me beyond the
last row where data is entered, sometimes many blank rows
beyond. I've tried deleting those blank rows, making sure
there is nothing hidden inthose rows, no conditional
formatting, etc., but that doesn't work. If I cut and
paste the rows with data into a new sheet, that works
(i.e., "ctrl-end" takes me to the last cell with data in
it). Is there a way to do this without the cut and paste
workaround? Thanks.

Go one row beyond your what you would like the end of your WS to be.
Select the entire row and do:
<Ctrl> <Shift> <DownArrow>.
This should take you to the last row, 65536.
Right click in the selection and choose "Delete".

You could do the same thing with columns, using the RightArrow.

Now do a <Save>, and the WS should now be "resized".
Check it with another <Ctrl> <End>.

Some older versions of XL required a Close and re-open before the resize
would take effect.

Also, if you had chosen a row to be your last, that might have been *above*
some data that you might have wished to delete (or some data that you were
unaware of), you would have to hit the DownArrow more then once before you
are able to get to row 65536.

After you delete the rows, save the workbook.
I've read that some versions require you to close the workbook but that
hasn't been my experience in xl'97 or 2k.
Simply deleting the rows/columns and saving was enough.
