MPEG problem

I can insert MPEG files into Powerpoint but not MPEG 2 or AVI. I am running
XP home. It works on another computer with XP home and another with XP pro
but not on this laptop where I need it.

MPEG 2 runs OK in Windows mediaplayer but not in the MCI media player. i
think it is something in win.ini or sys.ini but do not know what.

Any suggestions?

Try the screenshots in section 3 for appropriate registry settings for
your MCI Media Player.

thanks for the info but I had already found that link - The reg lists are
identical. MPEG2 will still crash the MCI player!!

Any other suggestions gratefully received

Oh, well, your mention of the INI settings made me think you probably
hadn't seen that info.

At any rate, since MPEG2 is crashing the MCI player, you might see if
rerendering the video with MPEG1 helps. Or maybe try opening Windows
Movie Maker (free download for Windows XP available on the Microsoft
site) and converting to a WMV.

Unfortunately PowerPoint does not always play well with MPEG2 or AVI files.
You can sometimes get them to work, but they will then often not work on
other's computers if you distribute the file to them.
You will be much happier encoding the file as MPEG1. However, be careful,
MPEG1 allows you to create some really crappy looking video if you are not
careful.
Go to http://FootageShack.com and download the free video clip available
there. It will give you an idea of what high-quality MPEG1 looks like and
you can test it out for compatibility on your machines.
