MS Access for Mac

Scott Jenken

I am interisted in still using Access for when I make the switch to a Mac
computer. Does anybody have any idea as to weather Access will be included
in the Office for Mac Suite? Are there other alternitaives to making
databases similar to the functuionality of Access without haveing to pay too
much?

I appritiate any help you can offer,

Thanks, Scott

Hi Scott,

At last we can address your request.

You can now use Mac Office as a completely relational database without
relying on an external program to be the data store.

Actual Technologies has created an ODBC driver that for about $30 US lets
you use Excel .xls or even text files as a data source.

From there you can create all the SQL queries you need to get your data
sets. You can even use parameter queries.

The documentation on how to accomplish this is not complete, but here's a
link to help you get started.

Look for the Word document titled OfficeAsRelationalDatabase inside the
Examples folder.

Download the Access driver (the access driver is the driver that you can use
with Excel and Text files).
http://actualtechnologies.com/product_access.php

There's a free mode that only returns the first 3 records of the result set
so you can see if the driver works the way you would like it to before you
buy.
