MS Access licensing question

Staff are using MS Access 2003 and Visual Studio 2005 for Access runtime
deployment. Is it legal to purchase MS Access 2007 licenses and then install
MS Access 2003? Users do not want to convert to Access 2007 at this time.
The vendor we are using to purchase the licenses and software says that it is
legal to go backwards with licenses. Is there any documentation on the
Microsoft site as to the legalities of this? We want to make sure we are
legal.

Is it required to have a separate MS Access 2003 CD for MS Access 2003
installation on each computer that is using it? Is there any documentation
on the Microsoft website regarding this?

But if you are distributing your app with the A2003 runtime then what
do you care about A2003 and A2007?

As to the downgrade I've heard that before but I have no idea. I'd
suggest reading the EULA and/or contacting MS licensing in your
country.

Contact MS licensing.

I will not answer any licensing questions as I am not a lawyer and I
don't read EULA's for the fun of it.

Generally, I would say yes. The condition applies to license A2003. They must
be a license copy. For example, You have 10 copy of A2003 for 10 PCs, you
“upgrade†to 10 copy of A2007 for the same 10 PCs. Correctly put, you only
have 10 licenses, not 20!

Assuming you don’t want to upgrade 3 PCs with A2003, they can remain as it is
without upgrading but you still have only 10 licenses, not 13! You can’t
install the 3 remaining A2007 licenses into other PCs or even install A2003
remaining 7 copies!

IP Laws differ from country to country; you’ll have to check with your local
government and your local Microsoft branch office for further confirmation.

A single copy of CD will do, if you buy the licenses in bulk for Microsoft.
Again, refer to your local Microsoft branch office.

Why buy A2007 if you don’t intend to upgrade some of them. Just buy what you
need.
