MS Access Not responding message

I have this DB in access 97 as well as 2003 (linking to 97 database). it gets
"hung" for some reason. the task list says "not responding"
I compacted nad reapired, but it still soes the same thing. wahta should I
do next?

Determine the cause

Does this immediately occur after opening the database?

It started recntly.Have been using this DB for about five years. It gets hung
when an append querry or update querry is run.at one point I got a message
'cant read record, currently locked by another user". there is no other user.
I am on network.

hmm, maybe the network. Copy the database to a local folder and run
JetComp against it:

Don't forget to make a backup.

Stefan: Thank you for the support. Much apprecaited. I copied the DB on my
desktop, and it works. It definately is a network issue. Jst onemore info: on
network, the # of recods it appended was under 350. At 351 it freezes. The IT
guys cant figure out why.

While this is still very vague, I can only guess:

- Try running it from the network without any active anti virus.
- Is it a LAN or a VPN?
If it is a LAN, let the IT guys check the NICs and the switches between
your machine and the server. Check for high traffic situations.
If it is a VPN, check the logs for drops.
- Is the server a Samba server?
