MS Access XP 2002 problem with some wizards

Recently when trying to use the Switchboard Manager or to use the Add-in
Manager in the Tools in MS Access XP (2002) , I am getting the following
message ...

"Microsoft Access can't find the wizard, or the wizard has not been
installed, or there is a syntax error in the Declarations section of a Visual
Basic module."
"The wizard you need may be missing from the Libraries key of the Microsoft
Access section of the Windows Registry or the wizard has been disabled."
"To make sure that the wizard is in the Wizard Registry, run Setup to
reinstall Microsoft Accss, and then compile all Visual Basic modules in the
database....."

I have used these features successfully in the past, creating swithcboards
and forms without any problems. This problem has appeared suddenly.

I have unistalled and reinstalled 3 times as directed by the message, and
each time the same problem has come up. Does anyone hava a solution to this?

Since you have already re-install Access different times, then try the

add-in registries keys:
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\#.#\Access\Menu

1- Go to Add/Remove Programs under Windows' Control Panel.
2- Click on Microsoft Office
3- When selecting, you will see a "Change" button. Click on it.
4- The Microsoft Office 2000 setup program will start running.
5- Select either "Reinstall Office" or "Repair errors on my Office
Installation"

Thank you so very much for your quick response. I notice that in your
response you make reference to Office 2000. Please note that I am using
Office 2002 XP Professional. I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Following your directions, I followed the path to C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office 10\1033. Please note that one level up from the 1033 folder, I
found a folder called Office 10 but no folder called Office. Looking inside
the 1033 folder there was no f ile named Acwztool.mde. The closest that I
came to this was a file named ACWIZRC.DLL; clearly not even close either in
the name of the extension. I also ran a search for any files with the
extension .mde and there were no files found with this extension in the 1033
folder. So as you can see it looks like I'm still stuck with this problem.

I should point out that I have several Access databases which contain
Switchboards and Forms, all of which I created some time ago. Access is even
prohibiting me from using the Switchboard Manager to make changes to these
existing objects.

Your directions are very good and clear. Unfortunately, they did not do the
trick for me. I am hoping that you or someone else will come up with a
solution to this situation.

engine. Close any Access program/windows. Go to your system registry and
change the following registry value from 3 to 2:

Jet may need the latest service pack for the Microsoft Jet 4 database
engine. Have you ran any Windows Updates lately? Please read the

Hello again Randy:

Once again thank you very much for your prompt response.

I'm not sure where to begin.

Discussing this matter with a colleague, he suggested to search for
acwztool.mde file inside the entire Microsoft folder within the Program Files
folder. I was surprised to discover that the file was inside the Office 10
folder (one level up from the 1033 folder). I then followed your directions
to delete the file and Reinstall/Repair Microsoft Office. It still didn't
work.

The good news is, that in the meantime you had sent me your latest
suggestions to make the change to the Registry Entry for the Microsoft Jet
database engine. Again, I followed your directions and changed the Registry
entry in question. I then rebooted and voila - it works. I'll check about
the service packs for trhe Microsoft Jet 4 database engine later. Right now
I'm too pleased for words.

What can I say? Thank you so very very much. Your help and advice is very
much aoppreciated. I'm not sure which continent you are on (the time stamp
of your messages suggests Asia), nor am I sure about what your religion is.
We are about to celebrate Christmas here, and you just gave me a great

I am first time user of a discussion group. I experience exactly the same
problem as described by Tony. I follows your instruction and the problems is
solved. I have spent so much time in re-installing as suggested by the
Access warning. Thank you very very much. By the way, I am in Ottawa,
Canada.

I am having the same trouble, have gone through all of the steps that you
suggested, but still haven't fixed the problem. Any other ideas? The wizards
that aren't working are the ones like input mask wizard, the documentor, the
subreport, etc.

You have also saved me from throwing my laptop through the window!!

I have an Access 2003 on a desktop which is fully loaded with all latest
Service Packs. Access works fine. I loaded a new Windows XP Pro and Office
2003 PRO, loaded all service packs for both and an access d/b on the desktop
would not work correctly on the laptop. When I used any of the create (Form,
query or report) wizards they would find the table but would not find any of
the fields within the table. I have spent two days of frustration trying to
figure it out. The "Sandbox" registry key was set differently on the two
machines. Why?, go figure!

Following your change shown below, my problems have been solved.
