MS Exchange

I'm running Outlook 2007 with a DSL internet connection. My work (college)
has a MS Exchange server which I can (supposedly) connect to my email via
Outlook at home. The help desk folks have given me every piece of
information "they think" I need to get connected. However, everytime I try
to get to my email, I get the same message "The connection to Microsoft
Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete
this action."

What I REALLY need to know is this: Does any one know if this error is
occuring because of a setting I still have wrong on my end, or is there
something on the college's end of things that's keeping me from connecting?

I need some ammunition to get them to fix their problem, or I help in fixing
my problem!

Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks -

They have given me the exchange server name, and I followed their directions
for connecting via HTTP with Outlook Anywhere with the proxy server name.
Using "Cached" mode and other defaults.

The only other setting they had me change was a on the proxy server page,
the authentication is set to Basic.

I hope this is what you were needing -

Yes, that is what I wanted to know. Do you know if its Exchange 2003 or
2007?

Setting up an account outside the server is slower and may take longer
(maybe 10 min if I recall correctly) but it does work. I found it was
faster if the IP address was in the hosts file when the account is created.
Once the account worked I could delete the entry in hosts - I used the
internal server name in the hosts file (the name outlook puts in the server
field when you are inside the network).

I am assuming it is 2007 - but do not know for certain.

I can ask for the IP address no problem. However, what happens exactly is
that a log-in window appears when I open Outlook asking for my password. I
type in the password, and about 2 seconds later the same window appears, I
type in the password again, etc... this loop seems to go on "forever" until
I finally hit the cancel and then the error message appears.
