MS Jet db engine stopped

Greetings. MSA2003 db. A change was made to one of the numeric fields
(changed to text). When trying to re-enter db the following message is
displayed: The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you
and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time." I
have searched through this forum and have tried some of the tips with no
success. No .ldb is present, I cannot get in by holding down the shift key, I
cannot import into a new db (I get the same error once I initiate the
import). Is there anything else I can do, or do the users have to re-key one
whole day's worth of work? Tape backups are nightly, however the programmer
making the change did not first back up/copy the db. Thank you in advance.

You've done the obvious things. There are a few more faint hope things you can try
at the Microsoft Access Corruption FAQ at

Tell the programmer next time when they are in Windows Explorer to cilck on the file
once to highlight it. Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to make a copy of the file. Real easy.

Please ignore Aaron Kempf's posting as Aaron's answer to just about every question is
SQL Server and ADPs. No matter how appropriate his response.

are you trying to tell me that SQL Server has these problems-- where
you can't backup a file in use?

I've _NEVER_ had this problem using SQL / ADP and I've built 100 times
as many databases.. with 100 times as much data-- as Tony Toews has
