MS Office 2000 for Small Business SR1 download crashes

Hello,

I'm running Windows 98SE on a 600 Mhz Intel processor.
After downloading MS Office for Small Business 2000 SR1
pack from the Microsoft Download center and installing it
I am unable to send any type attachment with Outlook and
Word 2000 crashes often with "This program has performed
and illegal operation". Attempts to remove Office via the
Add/Remove Programs icon in control panel yeilds
a "Program not responding". Any suggestions on how to
either resolve the problems or remove Office 2000 without
reformatting my harddrive?
