MS Office 2000 Premium

Please help!

With increasing frequency a window pops up on my monitor which reads "Please
wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office 2000 Premium" and is then
unable to because it can't find a file called "DATA1.MSI". Does anyone know
how I can stop this? I'm using Office 2000 and Windows XP. I've had this
setup since I installed XP which was shortly after it was introduced. I use
Update so everything is current on my OS.

Open Microsoft Word and from the Toolbar select:
Help > Detect and Repair. Afterward, visit the Microsoft
Office Update web site and install all the recommended
Service Packs and updates for Microsoft Office 2000.

When I do this and hit the 'start' button, the "please wait while Windows
configures Microsoft Office 2000 Premium" routine starts again!

I tried Method 1 and at first it appeared to work but the problem soon came
back. When I tried Method 2 I got as far as Item 3 but could find no
UserData DWORD value. There's a User Info folder but nothing inside it that
looks likely.

I can't see your screen from here, so I'll take your word for it
that you are looking at the correct registry key and there is no
UserData subkey in it. Skip steps 4, 5, and 6 in Method 2 and go

There is nothing there except 'ab' inside a half page icon followed by
(Default) under 'Type', under 'Type' I see REG_SZ and under 'Data' I see
(value not set)

I skipped to step 7 and didn't see 'OSAShortcut' so followed the
instructions and created it. I started MS Word and saw nothing. I started
MS Excel and up popped the installer window. At no point did a prompt for
User Name occur. I saw no installer window when I started MS Woord a couple
of times but now it's back again!

In desperation, I tried option 3, i.e. reinstalling MS Access. I get to
step 10 and, 'Voila!', up pops my nemesis, the installer window "please wait
while Windows configures Microsoft Office 2000 Premium"!

Grrrrrrr!!!
