MS Office 2000 SBE start-up problem

S

On XP Pro.

One account works fine, but on the other account, Word (only Word, not
Excel or other Office applications!) takes 2-5 mins to open from the
Office ‘Open New Office Document' shortcut bar.

Task Manager shows two copies of Word, so I think it's trying to open
two copies of Word for some reason, thus confusing itself.

A created shortcut to WinWord results in the same problem.

A newly created user account does not have the Office ‘Open New Office
Document' shortcut bar, but a created shortcut to WinWord results in
*normal* operation.

Repairing Office doesn't work. Yet to try /a switch and clearing
start-up folders (doing this for very unknowledgeable friend at a
distance), but does anyone have any other thoughts if that doesn't
work (or the registry clean-up)?

Any thoughts on a remedy for the affected account?

Thanks in advance.

Seeing if the same issue occurs when you start Word using the /a
switch is my first suggestion. Off hand I'd say the problem lies in
Normal.dot or an add-in.

You're on the right track so if your current suggestion doesn't work
then find out what patches he has installed and we'll see what we can
do from there.
