MS Office 2003 apps and Open Doc window ...

When using MS Office 2003 Pro applications and trying to
browse documents, the document Open/Look-in drop down box
is extremely slow to respond with a list of local and
network drives to browse - perhaps taking up to a minute.
When going directly to My Network Places or My Computer
all local and network drives appear fairly quickly. This
problem was solved for us once before by disabling the Web
Client service and the Use Simple File Sharing option.
Now those settings appear to be set correctly ( i.e.
disabling both ), but we still get the problem. I am
guessing that there is yet another service running in the
backround that may be causing these problems. Any help
though would be appreciated. Thanks ...

If you are using this setup on a Windows 2000\2003 Server
make sure that DNS\Active Directory is working properly.
If the PC has a static IP address is it registered in DNS?
We had the exact same problem with a machine that had a
temporary Static IP address in it. Once set to DHCP, which
is what it should have been, it worked fine because under
DHCP the IP address for the PC was registered in DNS at
time of address delivery to the PC.

Cool, thanks. I will check that out. I think that it was
set to DHCP, but there may certainly be some other issues
with it trying to use AD.
