MS Office 2003 SP2 causes Outlook failure to send receive email

I've tried twice to install Office 2003 SP2 (it says it installed
satisfactorily) and the end result both times (nothing else changed) is that
Outlook will no longer access email ISP server (IE explorer works OK) for
either send or receive. Outlook worked fine after each system restore...so I
know its Office 2003 SP2 as the cause.

Also, even after "successful" install, taskbar still reports update is
needed...even after hours later and a couple restarts.

Anybody with similar experience? Any known fixes? Does Microsoft know of the
problem? I searched KB but found nothing on it. At this rate I can't use it.

Hi Doug,

If you're running a privacy/firewall product check to see that
it is allowing Outlook to access the Internet. It may be
seeing the apps as a 'new' version, that you didn't specifically
authorize to connect.

That seems to have been the solution as I checked setting in Zone Alarm,
reset to correct pref (it got change by the SP2 install), and now Outlook
in/out mail runs OK.
Odd I did not have to do that on my laptop which is setup same way. Sorry to
hear so many other having downlload and install problems...I have done 5
downloads and install....looks like this one is the keeper.

Thanks for your help/insight....hope other can use same info if needed.

Doug
