MS Office 2008 keeps launching setup assistant

I am caught in the endless loop of trying to open an Office application only
to have it quit and launch the office setup assistant, click through to opt
in/out of feedback, then auto-update launches, doesn't find any updates, and
then I'm back to the desktop.

I have this....

and this...
http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/2008/05/office_2008_sp1_install_causes_setup_assistant_to_loop.html

and things here...

Nothing has worked. I cannot use office. This is so unacceptable for a
business environment. I don't see how as the manager of IT I can endorse
using Office anymore. We are a video production company and it looks like
we'll be using iWork from now on.

Anyone know of anything else to try?

The second link you quoted seems to correspond to your problem. If it
didn't work, I would suggest completely uninstalling uing the
uninstaller and reinstalling again,

If the re-install doesn't work, let me know. Be sure you restart with all
applications quit installing.

BTW, did you ever have the beta installed. This can really mess up install
and updates now.

I'll be happy to work with you off line to get you installed. Let me know if
you continue to have problems.

I have exactly the same problem and I'm ready to just dump Microsoft
altogether. What a waste of money. After installing Microsoft Office 2008
Mac, I'm in an endless loop.
