MS Office 2K Update - Data1.msi

Mark H

I have read all the posts and find I have tried most of
the solutions here, in one form or another, without
success.
I am especially having problems with Office 2000 Premium
SR-1. Office 2000 Professional is working as advertised in
most cases. The updates for either version require SP-3,
which works okay but then the patch for the Access snap
shot viewer asks for the installation CD, disc 1. I have
the CD in the drive but get the error message that the
Data1.msi file is invalid.
I removed and reinstalled Office Premium SR-1. Same error
on the Access patch.
I am going to contact MS and see if I can get an answer.
If I do get an answer I will post here again.

Good luck to everyone.

Hi Mark,

I'm assuming you're using the Office 2000 Professional
and Office 2000 Premium editions on different machines
or on different boot partitions?

What version of Windows are you using and what is
the version of MSIexec.exe?

When you get the request for the CD if you look at
the bottom of the dialog what is the name of the product
it is asking for?

The update I am unable to update is KB822035 (for Access)
but not the snap shot viewer patch, which installed
correctly.

Hello all,

I did a search through the Microsoft KB and found the
following articles. Not sure if any or all will be of
assistance or not, but here goes.

Thank you for responding.
I have been working with Pro and Premium on different
machines as you surmise. I have upwards of 600 PC's to
update at work. Fortunately most have not been
problematic. The testing I am doing today is at home on
my PC running Office Premium SR-1 on a Win2k SP4
platform.
I ran across a KB article 247674 which pointed me to a
product Microsoft calls ERASECD2.exe. The file can be
downloaded from the link in KB247674 and it is run after
removing Office from your PC. It erases registry settings
created by Office on installation.
I used the ERASECD2 cleaner on my PC and reinstalled
Premium SR-1. My Outlook data and settings were all in
tact so that was good. I updated to SP-3 then ran the MS
online updater for the latest patches and they all
installed.
Apparently ERASECD2.EXE is the part MS left off the Office
installation CD that is needed to make a reinstallation of
Office "take" on the PC. The updates did not install
after I used just the Office removal process from the
original installation CD.
This is going to be a pain next week but I have help at
work and a process that, while it does not fix the
problem, resolves the issue.
Improper or cumulative installations of Office over time
may contribute to the probl;ems we have found. Having to
reinstall on every PC and laptop we support will not be
necessar but enough will have to be reinstalled to make
the week very long.
