Two years ago, I purchased a new laptop with Windows XP
Home. I installed Windows 97 Professional at that time
and it worked great. This past week, I had to reinstall
Windows XP (because of nasty viruses), and now Office 97
will not successfully install - using the same exact
installation disks. The installation itself goes fine -
the system actually tells me the installation was
successful, but when I try to open Word, I get the
error: "This application must be installed to run.
Please run Setup form the location where you originally
installed the application." MS Binder, Powerpoint,
Shortcut Bar and Bookshelf all work, but Access, Outlook
and Word give me the same error message.
I have tried installing and uninstalling (including using
the Removal Wizard) several times, with the same result.
There is only one user account on my system - and it is
identified as the computer administrator, so I don't
think there is a user conflict. I read about an error in
Windows Installer, and downloaded the "Msiregmv.exe", but
I still have the problem.
I am a writer and I really need to use Word. Any help
would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Karen
