Operating System: Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther)

Hello,

I installed my Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Student and Teacher Edition
(third license) and I have a successful installation (erasing previous ms
office programs, no other programs running, etc).
However, when it's all said and done, I launch any of the new programs and
they launch but midway they freeze, right when the "OPTIMIZING FONT MENU"
message underneath the program icon appears.
Nothing else happens, it just spins and spins freezing.

Any advice? I'm running apple OS X 10.3.9

Thanks!

Make sure that your copy of Office is up to date. Download and install the
latest Office 2004 updates, which are the Office 2004 11.3.5, 11.3.6,
11.3.7, 11.3.8, 11.3.9, and 11.4.0 updates.

In Office 2004, use Microsoft AutoUpdate to get the latest updates. From
any Office application, go to Help > Check for Updates (or manually launch
Microsoft AutoUpdate from the Applications folder). If any updates are
needed, they will display in a sheet, at which point you can check them and
press the "Install" button to download and install them.

Updates can also be found at the Microsoft web site:
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx>

Try deleting the Office font cache file. It's located here.
/Users/<Your User>/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office Font Cache (11)

Try checking for corrupt fonts. You can find a detailed procedure at the
McGimpsey & Associates web site.
