MS office products should not freeze if network printer is unplug.

Hi,

I have MS Office XP in my office. All my office colleagues noticed something
strange recently. The network printer name had been renamed without our
notice (effectively implying the printer that was previously installed no
longer existed on the same network).

Whenever we'd do anything as simple as trying to print or change font of
text in Outlook or word or excel (or other MS Office products); MS office
would freeze up and remain frozen forever. The only alternative was to
restart the computer after hours of waiting. The other alternative, was to
reinstall the new printers after which office products stopped freezing.

I think the above is a bug and needs rectification; why is there a loop to
check if a printer exists while doing something as simple as changing a font?
Even when trying to print to a printer that no longer exists on the network;
I think a message of that sort should come up rather than the office product
freezing on me.

.
Start> Control Panel> Printers and right click on a valid
printer and choose set as default. On each computer.

Insure the person that changes the printer, notifies each
of you to change the default.

Fonts are installed by the printer drivers. If the printer changes but the
clients are not updated, Office will search for Fonts to no avail since it
is looking for a non-existent printer. Whoever changed the printer name
should have known enough to update the clients.
