MS Office programs will not open at all

I have a MacBook Pro with Microsoft Office 2004 running on it.
I had the shortcut placed in my dock. When I launched MS word, excel,
or powerpoint, the logos would bounce for a few seconds, show the
license, and then quit unexpectedly. I tried this numerous times and
they wouldn't work even after I restarted the computer. I can open
documents by clicking on the old files, which launches the program
itself successfully, but i can't seem to launch the actual program
first.
What could be the problem and what can I do?

You may have damaged preference files.

See here for a procedure:

http://word.mvps.org/Mac/DamagedPrefs.html

Or you may be another victim of the QuickTime 7.2 update.

You can read about that on the Apple website here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306043

If you have a Intel based Mac, there was a QuickTime update and it was
breaking all applications running off of Rosetta and the Office
program is one of these programs, to fix this issue you would need
to download QuickTime again.
Go to www.apple.com/quicktime/download and select the free download
now. Once downloaded go through the installation by just hitting
continue on all the screens and at the end it will prompt you to
restart your Mac Operating System, once you restart you should be able
to open your Office applications successfully.

so I uninstalled quicktime, and then I reinstalled it. I'm pretty
sure the reason everything was messed up was because I installed some
patches for quicktime so I could play some movies.

I wanted to get the combo update in hopes of getting my Office Apps to
work, but it would not let me install the combo update. It said my
volume did not meet requirements. A small red exclamation point
appeared under the logo. What do I do now? Thanks so much, peoples.

The Office updates have to be applied in sequence, beginning with 11.3.5,
then 11.3.6, then 11.3.7...

sorry, I'm still unclear...how do i install these office updates
sequentially?, because all I have a link to download the combo pack,
which does not give me the option to download office updates
separately.
