MS Office SBE 2003 SP1 won't install

D

DonW

Tried to install the patches but only downloads them and
won't install. Looks like I am not the only one here with
the problem.
Microsoft have any suggestions?

Count me in this camp of an unsuccessful instalation of Sp1. It looks through
my 2003 disk but says files are missing. Nothing more specific than that.

Log files are created in the '%temp%\ohotfix' folder that provide an
indication of what might be causing the installation to fail. The file you
want will have a name like 'OHotfix(0000x).log' where 'x' is a number. It
will likely be the most recent of these files. It should be a relatively
small file (mine is only 4kb), and if you attach it in a reply, I'll review
it.

Log files are not generated if you install from Office Update; so install
from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...A6-7CB1-4F61-837E-5F938254FC47&displaylang=en.

Well, this log didn't provide the cause of your failure. I'll need to look
at the other log file (OHotfix(0000x)_Msi.log where 'x' is a number) which
can be fairly large. If you put it in a Zip file and send it to me in
email, I'll look at it. My email address is (e-mail address removed)
(remove the '.online' before sending). The file size should be much smaller
in a Zip file.

E-mail sent with the log file.

I just wanted to update the rest of you that Don's problem has been resolved
(although he did eventually uninstall/reinstall). The problem we saw in his
log file (and in several others that I've seen) is that there is missing
information in the registry for the Local Install Source feature. We
manually replaced some path information, but that didn't completely solve
his issue.
