MS Office Web Access - How to stop

I have an installation of MS Office 2003 on my Lap Top and Home/Office
computer.

When working from home, I am usually connected to my Corporate network via
VPN. When away on business, my LapTop.

Problem: Every time I attempt to use the help function or other menu based
function (Thesaurus, spell checker, fomula help, etc.) the app wants to hit
the internet and obtain the information.

When on a laptop, this slows things down, when on VPN - I have to log into
our firewall and wait forever (network time lag) to get the information.

How can I shut off the attempts at web access until I want it to? Not
everyone has a giga-bit communication speed or super-high speed, direct
connections to Microsoft?

Please advice.

under menu item
tools, options..
