MS Office Word 2003 (2) appeared in file list. Is this an update?

Two new files have appeared in my Office 2003 file list - Excel 2003 (2) and
Word 2003 (2). Does the '(2)' signify an update and should I delete the
earlier versions of these programmes that do not have this annotation?

Hi, mfecons,

Those usually indicate duplicate shortcuts. You can remove them as long as
you have Excel 2003 and Word 2003 shortcuts already. By the way, deleting
the shortcuts won't actually remove any programs, it just deletes the link
to the program from your program list.
