ms office-word problem

I brought a document over to new computer via floppy and
made changes. Each time I go to open the doc, it says that
it is currently being used by another person, which is me,
and do I want to make a copy. Frequently while working on
the document it says I have made a illegal op and then it
shuts down. I tried patching from Microsoft but no avail.
help is desparately needed.

Don't ever try to open a file directly from a floppy (or save directly to a
floppy). This is one of the easiest ways to corrupt your document
irretrievably. Instead, copy it to the HD and open it from there (then save
it back to there and copy to the floppy). For your other problem, see
